LFW SUMMER RESORT 2014: ANJU MODI
Straight panel kurtas with high side slits teamed with long skirts came in several versions. It was a collection of multiple elements: prints, embroideries, layering, clash of prints & colors…all leading to one word ‘fusion’, a style which is anyway never too far away from Anju Modi. Highlights of red were particularly very fascinating. Saree skirts teamed with embroidery-highlighting-shoulders crop tops again came in fusion of bohemian and kitsch. Men paraded in printed ombre’ blazers, printed shirts, printed bandhgalas, printed loafers, carrying printed bags. So, while mixing and clashing of design elements produced great drama, it somewhere also led to a kind of distraction (unfortunately) where you dont know where to rest your eyes.
Contemporary lehenga with multi-textured, multi-patterned panels were excellent and so were printed long dresses with sharp angular armholes. Not to forget the fantastically animated make-up, a la Tilda Swinton in The Chronicles of Narnia.
The show ended with the sensuous, sultry goddess Malaika Arora Khan walking the ramp in a beautiful grey anarkali dress with embroidery all over. Oh! And her chandelier earrings. What a peace of beauty!
