LFW SUMMER RESORT 2014: MANISH MALHOTRA
Just when we all are waiting eagerly for LFW Autumn/Winter 2014 to begin (FYI its from 20-24th Aug), let me revisit and review key designers from this year’s LFW Summer Resort and the important trends that came through these shows. The most notable designers for Summer Resort were: Manish Malhotra, Anita Dongre, Shyamal & Bhumika, Anju Modi, Tarun Tahliani, Shantanu & Nikhil, Gaurav Gupta, Neeta Lulla and Rajesh Pratap Singh.
Manish Malhotra’s show started with classic black & white for men in combinations of long blazers, waist-coats and creamy white Jodhpur pants. Very soon into the show, entered Sonakshi Sinha in a long sheer black kurta dress with white thread embroidery while also marking the beginning of an extremely elegant collection done up with thread embroideries in beautiful vintage colors. Where men’s black blazers had tone-on-tone patterns highlighted with white buttons or white placket detail, women’s black outfits had white thread embroidery highlighted with white sequins. Golden-beige with creamy whites was a line of understated extravagance….like, saying a lot without saying anything. Men’s zipped bandhgalas looked great and so did women’s zipped sarees. There was earthiness in the entire collection, even colors like peaches had a touch of earthy to them which made them even more glamorous. My favourite was the last line, the vintage print line with accents of old rose.
Key elements: thread embroidery, tone-on-tone surfaces, long, sheer & straight silhouettes, vintage print.
